GENERAL MUSIC OVERVIEW

My mission as a music educator is to introduce young students to the joy of playing and experiencing music. Students will continue on from Stockbridge Central School, equipped with the essential cognitive, motor, and learning skills to become competent musicians and appreciators of music. To facilitate these intentions, I plan to implement the following:
* Create a classroom environment that is 1. safe, 2. fun, 3. engaging, 4. oranized, 5. intuitive.
* Meet requirements of the Vermont Framework of Standards and Learning Opportunities.*
* Engage students of all different learning styles, interests, and abilities
This year’s General Music curriculum is largely modeled after The Vermont Framework of Standards and Learning Opportunities. These standards are divided into four components for assessment:
1. Skill Development- creating music (composing/improvising), performing and communicating through music, and showing understanding of music concepts and vocabulary.
2. Reflection and Critique- describing art using discipline specific vocabulary, analyzing/interpreting/responding to music, and critiquing and revising music.
3. Making Connections- making connections between/among music and disciplines outside the arts, showing understanding of how music impacts life, and showing understanding of how music shapes and reflects various cultures and times.
4. Approach to Work- approaching artistic problem solving with open minds and creative thinking, developing effective, personal work habits, and demonstrating appropriate interactions.
